Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers regarding admissions, Raga learning, schedules, and campus details at Mukunda Music Raga.

What are the 72 Melakarta Ragas?

The 72 Melakarta Ragas are the foundational parent scales of Carnatic music. They are complete (Sampurna) heptatonic scales containing all 7 swaras ($S, R, G, M, P, D, N$) in both ascending (Arohana) and descending (Avarohana) order with identical swara variants. They are organized into 12 Chakras of 6 ragas each.

Can absolute beginners join music classes at MMR?

Yes! We welcome students of all age groups and skill levels. Beginners start with basic Swara exercises (Sarali Varisai, Jantai Varisai, Alankaras) before progressing to Varnas and Raga compositions.

Where is Mukunda Music Raga located in Bengaluru?

Our academy is located at MMR ENCLAVE, #10, HMT Main Road, Opposite SBI Bank, Mathikere, Bengaluru - 560054, Karnataka, India.

Are online music classes available?

Yes, we conduct both in-person classes at our Mathikere campus and structured 1-on-1 online classes for international and outstation students.

What is the difference between Carnatic Melakartas and Hindustani Thaats?

The Carnatic system utilizes a mathematically comprehensive 72 Melakarta parent scale classification. The Hindustani system, codified by Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande, organizes ragas into 10 primary parent scales called Thaats (Bilaval, Kalyan, Khamaj, Kafi, Asavari, Bhairav, Bhairavi, Poorvi, Todi, Marwa).
